Gambling

In this lecture, we talked about gambling and how it can become addicted, i personally do not see what sort of buzz it gives people to loose alot of money. But then i only have the occasional go on the lottery, or buy the odd scratch card.

Gambling is very much portrayed in films as a good thing and films such as James Bond portray this, however it mainly portrays the person winning, this is not always the case and the odds are more likely to loose than win.Online gambling has also been widely advertised, with many online casinos willing to take extra money because you are sitting in the comfort of your own home. We talked about car insurance as being a form of gambling, at first i couldn't see how, but whendennis explained that you are paying less car insurance for the increased odds of your car not being involved in a crash or being vandalised, so now i a sense it is a form of gambling. however it is not addictive.

some people gamble with money they have not got or bet on items such as their house or car. Is this being bad, once gambling has progressed into being addictive it is hard to try and get out of the habbit.
Gambling statistics: (UK figures)
In 2005 the turnover for gambling activities in the UK was £53bn
It is estimated that 3/4 of the population gamble or have gambled
Playing the national lottery, buying scratch cards and buying raffle tickets account for the higest rated of gambling (adults)
more men gamble than women Men (76%) women (68%)

Is Gambling a form of exploitation?
Do you think online gambling should be banned?
Do you percieve gambling to be 'bad' or is it someting we do for oue leisure?
